Champion Power Equipment rank number 1 in power generation for the home and this model is a popular choice for those who have bought it to power their whole house. The package includes 14kW aXis Home Standby Generator and a 200A aXis ATS Whole House Automatic Transfer Switch, which if you had had to buy separately would set you back a lot of money.
If you live in a warmer climate and want to run air conditioners during an outage this powerful 14kW static home generator, which operates automatically if and when grid power fails, may be what you need. But if you are not sure, or live in a colder climate where air conditioners are not required, you can look at Champion's Standby Generator Selector to help you choose the right model for your needs.
The Champion Power Equipment 100837 Home Standby Generator System boasts several advanced features to ensure reliable and efficient power supply during outages. It's designed to operate quietly in all temperatures, from -22° to 104° F. It's one of the most fuel efficient, delivering the kind of clean power that's safe for your sensitive electronic equipment. And for residential use, it's backed up by a 10-Year Limited Warranty.
The Model 100837 includes Champion aXis Wi-Fi with which the generator can be programmed using a tablet or phone.
For more information on this model, you can look through the manual.
The generator never needs refueling when connected to your natural gas or LPG fuel supply and comes with a 200 Amp aXis Automatic Whole House Transfer Switch (ATS) which is ETL listed and complies with UL standards for the US. The switch allows the generator to start up automatically when it detects a failure in the grid supply. It also stops the generator automatically once it senses grid power has been re-established.
A Champion 754cc air-cooled 4-stroke engine powers this standby generator. It runs on propane or natural gas and there are important differences between the two sources of fuel. For example, although the generator can output 14000 watts when using propane, this drops to 12500 watts when natural gas is used as a fuel source.
This standby generator weighs 482lbs. However, it's not designed to be moved around but instead be installed permanently a required distance away from your house.
Champion say this is one of the quietest standby generators owing to its full-coverage sound insulation. That said, it has a sound level of 62dB when idling and rises slightly when under load.
A lot of buyers consider this standby generator from Champion be well worth the money especially for its 10-year warranty, easy installation and inclusion of an automatic transfer switch as standard. "It runs quiet and maintenance is a breeze and it's so nice to not have to mess with gasoline and run extension cords". Like the Generac standby generator, it's fairly easy to install though the installation costs by a professional electrician are high: make sure your Champion representative is local to get a reasonable response if you want technical support. The unit starts up perfectly when needed and restores power quickly.
Installation costs can be high so prospective buyers need to take this into account when setting their budget. One laments that it doesn't have the software to monitor and notify you when the generator kicks in or when the electricity goes off like a competitor brand. Although most seem to have had a good response from Champion, this has not always been the case with local representatives.
